Technical Lead - Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Technical Lead – Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls provides technical and people leadership within the E,I&C discipline, supporting the E,I&C Discipline Lead and senior leadership to deliver high-quality engineering services and developing/maintaining strong client relationships. This role oversees project technical details, resource loading, standards, execution and QAQC.  

The position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, project support, and business development. The Technical Lead also plays a senior client-facing role, contributing to proposals, resolving escalated issues, and driving innovation and digital workflows. 

In addition, the role will include mentorship and development of team members and fostering the 3 T’s of Tarco: Trust, Transparency and Taking ownership. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:  

  • Provide senior-level technical oversight for instrumentation, controls, and/or electrical systems design, ensuring compliance with client, regulatory, and industry standards.

  • Support project execution through technical input on scope definition, scheduling, and detailed design. 

  • Lead the maintenance, and enforcement of E,I&C engineering standards, procedures, QA/QC, and technical workflows. 

  • Act as a technical authority for design reviews, drawing development, specifications, and deliverables. 

  • Provide advanced technical troubleshooting support during design, construction, commissioning, and startup. 

  • Collaborate with clients and vendors to ensure technical requirements, system integration, and performance expectations meet the project requirements. 

  • Champion adoption of new technologies, design aids, and industry best practices. 

  • Ensure compliance with electrical, instrumentation, safety, and regulatory standards and codes. 

  • Assist with estimating and proposal development   

    LEADERSHIP  

  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers and designers. 

  • Support resource planning and technical task allocation within project teams. 

  • Contribute to performance feedback, training, and technical development. 

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and accountability. 

  • Champions innovation and adoption of new technologies and industry best practices. 

YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, plus 10+ years technical experience leading the efforts of a multi-disciplinary engineering group 

  • Electrical, instrumentation, and/or control system design. 

  • Hands-on experience in consulting engineering, industrial automation, and controls environments. 

  • Demonstrated success in a customer-facing operations management role. 

  • Experience with on-site commissioning and startup.  

  • Good understanding of consulting, business development (with regards to proposal and estimate generation or contribution), client BD and sub-contractor communications.  

  • Strong technical trouble shooting skills.  

  • Technical proposal development.  

  • Advanced technical troubleshooting skills. 

  • Electrical and Instrumentation installation 

  • Instrumentation, electrical and control system design. 

  • Must possess a valid Canadian Driver’s License. 

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
