We are recruiting for the following position(s):

Discipline Lead - Automation

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Discipline Lead – Automation oversees all Automation team members and is responsible for technical standards, engineering processes, quality programs, project execution, and strategic initiatives that support productivity, client satisfaction, and business growth. The role includes strategic recruitment, development of technical procedures, operational planning, and supporting budget management in collaboration with senior leadership.
The position drives excellence in technical delivery, team performance, efficiency, customer focus, and safety while embodying and promoting Tarco’s values, culture, and compliance requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Lead the development and updates of engineering technical standards and operating procedures.

  • Monitor departmental performance and drive corrective actions where needed.

  • Assist in preparing and tracking operational budgets, forecasts, and milestone reporting.

  • Improve operational efficiency and identify areas for optimization.

  • Approve A/P, payroll, and other operational transactions as designated.

  • Maintain and improve engineering standards to ensure high-quality client deliverables.

  • Serve as a senior technical specialist to enhance client confidence.

  • Participate in project budgeting and proposal development.

  • Maintain necessary engineering accreditations and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate and assign resources effectively.

  • Participate in resource planning meetings.

  • Promote innovation, technology adoption, and continuous improvement within the discipline.

YOU HAVE:

  • Professional Engineering designation, or a diploma/bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of management experience in Western Canada’s energy sector.

  • Strong leadership, customer focus, and entrepreneurial mindset.

  • Preference given to Professional Engineers and Technicians.

  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License and legal eligibility to work in Canada.

  • Proven success in customer-facing operations management.

  • PLC/DCS/RTU programming with one or more major vendor systems (Rockwell/AB, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Modicon, etc.).

  • HMI/SCADA programming experience (Rockwell, Schneider, GE, Telvent, etc.).

  • On-site commissioning and startup experience.

  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Ability to create shutdown keys, PLC/HMI/SCADA programs.

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.

  • Instrumentation, electrical, and control system design experience.

  • Ability to create technical documentation (cause & effect, narratives, test procedures, manuals).
