Mechanical Engineer-In-Training
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Mechanical EIT is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. This may include operating, installing, or repairing design products such as motors, instruments, control panels, and other machines. Other engineering functions will fall under the direction of the Discipline Lead, Mechanical Engineering on a project-by-project basis.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Complete price estimates, schedules, specifications, project proposals, and bids for project work.
Design, product selection, testing, and document mechanical engineering projects.
Lead specified projects including:
Monitor project budget and schedule
Determine required resources
Order and track materials
Client follow-up
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
Prepare and review calculations, design documents, specifications, conceptual studies, designs, and reports.
Perform and direct equipment condition assessments, develop testing plans, perform equipment root cause failure analysis, and support equipment restoration activities.
Generate, read and understand mechanical discipline drawings including P&IDs, piping isometrics, general arrangements, and mechanical system drawings.
Identify technical issues, risks, and value adding opportunities and appropriately address these through development of engineered solutions and/or revisions to specifications, standards, and operating practice.
Design, develop, manufacture, install, and test machines such as motors, tools, instruments, and other mechanical devices.
Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering schematics and specifications.
Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance or rejection of completed designs.
Create and implement standard specification languages and procedures for mechanical engineering projects.
Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services.
Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data.
Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
YOU HAVE:
University Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Registered with APEGA
Good knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g. ABSA Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, API, ASME, AWS, and CSA codes).
Experience in design, operation and maintenance of piping, valves, condensers, cooling towers and tanks and other balance of plant equipment
Experience in mechanical engineering calculations.
Experience in reviewing PID, Line List, ISO, GA and 3D models.
Experience in coordination/liaison with inter-disciplines, client, and vendor.
Familiar with Word, Excel and Outlook.
