Junior Mechanical Designer

ABOUT THE JOB:

The Junior Mechanical Drafting Technician is responsible for the development and preparation of engineering designs and drawings using AutoCAD and ensuring that design drawings conform to specifications and design data. Other responsibilities include adhering to the project budget while preparing and interpreting conventional and CAD engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for assigned projects.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have some experience in mechanical drafting/design, particularly within the oil and gas sector. This role involves conceptualizing, designing, and detailing mechanical piping systems, such as air compressors, natural gas compressors and piping, regulators & PSVs, boilers and glycol heat medium systems, HVAC systems and equipment, etc.

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Develop detailed design drawings for mechanical equipment, piping, and systems using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) software.

  • Collaborate with engineers and project managers to design, lay out, and detail components and systems.

  • Create, review and analyze 3d models of piping systems

  • Generate Isometric and General Arrangement (GA) drawings to detail construction and fabrication drawings

  • Generate line lists, tie-in lists, and other mechanical drawings as required

  • Create IFR, IFC, and As-Built project drawings

  • Modify and revise designs to improve operations or to reduce fabrication and installation challenges.

  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, client specifications, and company processes/standards.

  • Conduct occasional site visits to help define scope and plan preliminary designs.

YOU HAVE:

  • Basic understanding of PLC systems and industrial instrumentation is an asset. 

  • Technical Diploma in Drafting Technology or similar.

  • Experienced in mechanical drafting & design, preferably in the oil and gas industry.

  • 1 year minimum

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant3D, CadWorx).

  • Knowledgeable in industry standards, design codes, drafting standards and symbology

  • Detail Oriented

  • A good communicator and team member

  • Good with time management, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
